Samburu, the Northern park of choice which offers more than you expect. Often overlooked by the tourist crowds Samburu is a fantastic location for seasoned safari goers looking for an alternative safari destination. Samburu's rugged, hot and dry landscape is considered by many as the last outpost before the Deserts of Kenya begin. The lifeline of Samburu, the Uaso Nyiro cuts right through the park and draws plentiful wildlife in search of water and shade provided by many overhanging trees. Follow the river through the park and you are bound to see animals.
Samburus special 5 which are unique to the area is something refreshing to look out for rather than the typical big 5 more easily found in other Kenyan parks. The Reticulated Giraffe, Grevy's Zebra, Somali Ostrich, Beisa Oryx and the Gerenuk. Samburu has a healthy population of predator cats, elephants and is a great birding location for people looking to tick some of the rarer species off their list.
